We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at a well-established restaurant in the heart of Athlone. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where food and drink are crafted with the utmost care and attention. About the Role:
As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to manage kitchen operations, ensuring smooth service and the highest standards of food preparation. You will be involved in menu development, stock control, and mentoring junior staff while maintaining the restaurant’s reputation for exceptional food and consistency. Your role will be key in creating innovative, seasonally inspired dishes that enhance the overall dining experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Chef in running the kitchen, ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of service
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior kitchen staff, ensuring high standards of quality, hygiene, and food safety
- Contribute to the development of seasonal menus and specials, ensuring creativity and freshness
- Ensure food preparation and presentation meets the restaurant’s standards, consistently delivering top-quality dishes
- Oversee stock control and ordering, minimizing waste and ensuring cost-effective kitchen operations
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen in compliance with health and safety regulations
- Step in for the Head Chef in their absence, ensuring seamless kitchen operation and service continuity
- Foster a collaborative environment where the team thrives in a fast-paced atmosphere
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef in a high-volume, fine dining, or innovative restaurant setting
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure
- A passion for food and creativity, with experience in developing seasonal or inventive dishes
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen health & safety standards
- Ability to work well as part of a team and communicate effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house staff
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, with Mondays and Tuesdays off
- An interest in pairing food with high-quality beverages is a plus
Salary & Benefits:
- €40,000-45,000 per year
- Two days off per week (Mondays and Tuesdays)
